Our Fifth Anniversary

In honor of our fifth anniversary, Kody and I decided to try something new together. So we booked a four day cruise to the Bahamas and spent most of this year planning for it. Needless to say, when the day of our departure finally arrived, we were very excited. We flew from Salt Lake to JFK in New York and had a small layover there. (Kody was so excited to see New York for the first time even though I had to keep reminding him that airport and aerial views really don't count as a visit). We then flew into MCO in Orlando and waited for our ride to our cruise ship in Port Canaveral. We spent our honeymoon in Orlando so it was nice to come back five years later.

Unfortunately the weather was stormy when we arrived at our ship. It was so windy, in fact, that the captain decided it was too dangerous to sail and our journey was delayed a day. I have to say, I was a little relieved because there was a lot of turbulance on the flight from New York to Orlando so I wasn't really feeling up for anymore movement. So we spent the first day of our cruise participating in all the activities the cruise director lined up for us. We went to comedy shows, did some shopping, lounged by the pool, and ate lots of good food. We also took a class together on how to fold towels into animals. The housekeeping staff on our cruise folded our towels into a different animal every night, so they shared some of their skills with us.

The next day the weather was clear and sunny, so we finally set off on our journey. Our first stop was Nassau. We had scheduled an excursion to the Aquaventure at Atlantis so we were escorted to a local bus driver for a ride to the resort. The Bahamas used to be a British colony so they all drive on the left side of the road. And they drive CRAZY. I'm talking 85 mph down a busy main street. We were gripping our chairs the entire way there. When we arrived at Atlantis we were first given a tour of the grounds. It was absolutely stunning! The casino had some beautiful sculptural pieces, too.

After our tour we headed off to the Aquaventure. Kody had been most excited for this part of the trip, and it did not disappoint! We had a great time floating on the lazy river and going down water slides.

And yes, I did go down this slide:

But I can't say I enjoyed it.

We also stopped over at the private Atlantis Beach to do some more relaxing.

We did a little more sightseeing around Atlantis...

And then we called it a day and went back to our ship for more fun and good food.

The next day we sailed to Freeport. Freeport is on Grand Bahama Island and is a very industrial area. But it has the most beautiful beach we had ever seen.

The water was so clear and blue and the sand was so soft. There were tons of locals walking the beach, selling t-shirts and asking if they could braid everyone's hair.

We later did some shopping at Port Lucaya, where we also stopped for lunch at a Mediterranean Restaurant.

Later that night we watched the sunset over the ocean.

We felt so blessed to be able to see this beautiful place together. We missed our babe, so we were ready to go home, but we couldn't have asked for a better vacation spot.

Happy fifth anniversary to us!
